Mathcounts News

Several Louise Archer 6th Grade Students have been preparing for a Mathcounts competition this year. Based on the Chapter Competition, we are please to announce that Tiger Deng was not only the highest scoring student for our school, but also scored in the top 25% of the participants in our Chapter! This is no easy feat as we compete against many mathematically advanced middle school students. Also, due to their high scores, six additional students are invited to compete in the state tournament.

Please congratulate the following (listed in alphabetical order) for advancing to the State Competition which will be held on March 31st in a virtual setting:

Tiger Deng
Yenna Kang
Mihir Kashyap
Gregory Peng
Zachary Qin
Peyton Reed
Brandon Sang-Zheng

The Mathcounts program was run in a club format starting in September with 22 6th grade students attending weekly meetings. The program was coached by former Louise Archer students and High School Juniors, Justin Gu and Daphne Feigin. Our states team is being coached by parent volunteer, Huaizhang Deng.

A Message from Lauren Lipton (School Counselor)

I just wanted to share that yesterday [Dec. 14th] we held our annual Warm Winter Clothing Closet event that helped families who were in need of adult, teen and children’s clothing. We serviced 68 adults and out of those 68 adults, 19 adults had children with them. There were a total of 25 children under the age of five years old who attended with their caregiver. In total, there were 93 individuals that came to get what they needed.

I wanted to personally thank each and everyone one of you. All acts of kindness, no matter how small, are noticed. Thank you for your contribution to this event to help families in need in our wider-Vienna community. From the generous donations, to spreading the word through our Madison Pyramid schools, to the volunteers who undertook the laborious effort to sort all the clothing, to all the backend planning and organizing, to the volunteers of Christ Church Vienna who helped facilitate a smooth and positive experience for families—I am in such awe of all of you!

Thank you for your time and commitment to servicing our families in need and I hope each of you have a wonderful holiday!!

With deep gratitude,
