Message From the PTA President

When we have been able to get outside on bike rides and walk; it’s been so great to see all the Sunshine that people have hung at their houses. Keep posting pictures on our Facebook page of your Sunshine too. Remember we are all walking on Sunshine when we see one at a fellow Louise Archer families house.

Update on specific Louise Archer needs:

Thank you to all that have donated we have provided about $500 worth of gift cards to families in our community. However we realize this is going to be an ongoing effort. We have now partnered with an extraordinary effort through the non-profit called “Belong!” which has partnered with several churches in Vienna to help support vulnerable families that have been affected by this pandemic. These funds will help support families in our pyramid, specifically Madison, Cunningham Park, Marshall Rd and Louise Archer. Through our partnership with Belong! gift cards will be distributed weekly.

Going forward we are going to have two ways you can give. Gift cards can continue to be dropped off at my house in the box on my front porch at 343 Orchard St. NW, Vienna, VA 22180 and we will get them to Belong! For the weekly distribution to our families. Or you can now choose to make a monetary donation through Belong!.

To contribute to Belong!- Click on the Belong link below. Choose from the drop down menu once you click “Vienna Students Food Initiative.”
When you put in your amount, in the Address field- instead of the donor’s street address, write in your school (Louise Archer). The staff will be able to track all funds this way to ensure that these funds are used for the listed school only.

URGENTLY seeking volunteers for 2020-2021

We still URGENTLY need to fill the LA5K and Before and After School Programs positions.

LA5K: We urgently need 2 co-chairs for the LA5K. Planning needs to start around May in order to secure a date for the race and a timing company. Then there is a big lull until August when the planning for the fall event starts.

Before and After School Programs: We are looking for 2 more chairs for the Before and After School Activities team. Volunteers to either help organize some of the activities, and/or someone who is near the school from 4-5pm who can help with some of the day to day when needed. For example, when one of the vendors cancels a class or just doesn’t show up, and we need to help the school get the word out and get kids home etc.

In addition, we have the following positions open for next year.

LA5K Fundraising Support: Our current LA5K fundraising chair will be continuing on next year, but needs help tracking and the collecting checks.

Yearbook: We need one more co-chair to join the yearbook committee.

Field Day: One of our two field day coordinator’s will be leaving after this year, so we are looking for one person to join the team. The main duty will be managing the ice for the event. This involves contacting Madison before the event and arranging a couple of pickups throughout the day.

Walk to School/Safe Routes: We are looking for someone to help and shadow the current walk to school chair. So if you have younger kids and like to walk to school, this job is perfect for you!

LA Runners: Do you like running? This is the last year for our LA Runner’s chair so we need someone to take over next year if we want the club to continue.

Garden Club: Since our current chair did a fabulous job getting Weiler’s to sponsor our school garden the garden club chair position is easy peasy. We just need a PTA liaison to continue the relationship and communicate any needs between the school and our sponsor.

School Supplies: We need a chair or two to help coordinate supply distribution in August and ordering in the spring.

Reflections: One of our two co-chairs will be continuing, so we are seeking one person to help run this program that encourages students to express their creativity. Commitment is primarily from September – November with updates in the Spring if any LA students progresses to higher levels.

Picture Day Coordinator: We will need a picture day coordinate for next year. This person helps confirm the room is set up and coordinates the volunteers who help pass out the picture cards and manages the lines.

Facebook Admin: We need a volunteer to help manage the Facebook page. This person would monitor the content and approve members.

Grocery Gift Cards for Donations

AGAIN a GIGANTIC Thank You to the many that have already provided grocery gift cards!

If you have the means and the ability to purchase any grocery store gift card (Giant is preferable), there will be a box on my door step for gift cards to be dropped into. Any amount is appreciated — $25 and $50 are most useful. You can purchase gift cards as part of a PEAPOD order if you are having groceries delivered.

If you can get me gift cards by Thursday, March 26 — I will make sure they get to LAES. Again please don’t make any additional trips to the store, but if you can purchase one or can add to a Peapod order that would be greatly appreciated. My address is 343 Orchard St. NW and the box will be on our front porch.

FCPS Grab and Go Meal Sites Moving to Curbside Service

FCPS is transitioning many of the grab and go meal sites at school locations to curbside service starting Friday, March 27, 2020.

Curbside meal pick-up stations are generally located in the bus lanes at the schools or in the kiss and ride area. Look for the canopy tent along with Food and Nutrition Services staff, who will deliver meals directly to vehicles.

Walk-ups are still welcome at all sites. Walkers are asked to use school sidewalks to safely navigate their walk to the pick-up stations.

Breakfast and lunch meals are available together and wherever meals are being distributed.

As a reminder, it is important to follow social distancing guidelines. Be sure to stand a minimum of 6 feet apart from others and practice regular hand washing, including prior to leaving a residence to pick-up meals, upon returning home, and before consuming food.

Spreading Sunshine

We all could benefit from some sunshine!

The PTA and PTA Sunshine Committee would like to invite each Louise Archer family to join us in helping to stay connected during our time off. We encourage each family to create a sunshine image that should be displayed in a street facing window. Keep it in your window until we return to school. While getting outdoors with your families (on walks, bike rides and runs) see how many you can locate. We have families all over the town of Vienna! It would encourage our kids to exercise and stay connected, without electronics! We hope you’ll be “walking on sunshine” with us!

Local History Lovers

We would like to add Louise Archer to the Vienna Historic Registry – we need a volunteer or small committee work with the Vienna historical society to register the school. We are already a historical landmark by the town, this is just to add the school to the registry.
