Java Programming Summer Course

Former LAES student, Vaneesha Gupta (currently a rising senior at James Madison HS) is teaching a 10-class Java programming course this summer. She has years of experience with Java both in school through classes, such as AP Computer Science A and Advanced Computer Science AB, and outside of school.

Students will learn the fundamentals of Java and valuable programming skills in a positive learning environment through games, projects, and activities. They will be able to write programs by the end of the course!

No prior experience is required! Feel free to try out the first class and see if you would like to continue. If interested, please fill out this quick Google form and she will contact you shortly.

If you have any questions, please reach out at Vaneesha.

Message from Principal Makrigiorgos

As you know, FCPS plans to have our students back in the classroom five days a week in the fall. So, we are beginning to think about and plan for next school year. As in the past, we welcome your participation as we plan for class assignments. Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning abilities.

You have the opportunity to complete an optional "Class Assignment Parent Survey" for the upcoming year. You can access the survey at:

  • Louise Archer website, under the announcements "Class Assignment Parent Survey". Or,
  • you can go directly to the Google form here.

Just complete the fillable form, submit it, and the information will go directly to me and will be shared with the grade level teachers during the placement process.

Please submit the electronic form no later than May 19, 2021. Late submissions or separate emails will not be considered. Thanks for continuing to have trust in our school and working together to create the most successful environment for your child(ren) at Louise Archer each year!

Message for Sixth Grade Class

Each year the 6th grade class gives a gift to the school. We owe the Class of 2020 much gratitude – they raised money for a celebration that did not happen. The money that was raised by this class will cover the cost of the gift that our class normally would have raised. We have purchased a bright and sunny yellow 10×15 canopy, frame, and carrying case for the school to use for outdoor events such as Field Day and the beginning of the year Popsicle Party. Be on the lookout for it next August on the playground!

The Sunshine Times Student Newspaper

Deadline for submission for the June edition is May 14th. Please see the PTA Website for submission guidelines.

Poetry of the Pandemic Contest

Our very own Amelia Munoz, in Ms. Stohs’ class, wrote a beautiful poem about Perseverance during their poetry unit that was selected from more than 550 poems for the Washington Post’s "Poetry of the Pandemic" contest. You can find her piece here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/kidspost/2021/04/27/kidspost-selects-10-poems-poetry-pandemic-contest/?itid=sf_lifestyle-kidspost

Congratulations, Amelia, and to all of those in Ms. Stohs’ class who submitted poetry!

From the Desk of the PTA President

Hello Louise Archer Families! I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Regan Morgan and I am excited to serve as your PTA president for the remainder of this year and next year. My daughter is in Ms. Toth’s 5th grade class, and we have loved being a part of the Louise Archer community ever since she joined the school in 3rd grade.

We have the most incredible and active PTA that runs programs that benefit all of the Louise Archer students. Have you ever run the 5K or watched your child dance at the Sock Hop? Has your child ever gotten a book at the Book Fair or yelled BINGO during Pizza Bingo? Have they ever loved having friends sign their yearbook? These are just some of the fantastic programs that are put on by the PTA, and we need your help to keep them going next year. Please take a look at the below open committee positions and email us to volunteer or to learn more.

  • Pizza Bingo/Silent Auction Co-Chair (4 co-chairs needed)
  • Sock Hop Co-Chair (2 co-chairs needed)
  • Yearbook Committee Co-Chair (2 co-chairs needed)
  • Picture Day Coordinator
  • Before/After School Committee Co-Chair
  • Green/Garden Committee Chair
  • Volleyball Chair
  • Odyssey of the Mind Chair
  • Box Tops for Education/Loyalty Rewards Program Chair
  • Reflections Co-Chair
  • Walk and Wheels Committee Chair

Thanks so much!
Regan
