International Night News

The LAES PTA is excited to announce that International Night is back! It will be on Friday, May 6th (raindate May 13th) at 6pm on the LAES black top. We can accommodate up to 20 countries. If you would like to represent a country please click the SignUpGenius link below. Sign up is first come, first served. If the country you wanted is already selected, please pick another country to present or contact the family that signed up to see if collaboration is possible.

Since we will be outside this year, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, everyone will need to bring their own table to display their presentation. We are unable to provide electricity, but you may use sterno cans to keep food warm (propane gas grills/cooking is not allowed).

Any questions? Please send emails to internationalnight@louisearcherpta.org. We will follow up with presenters with more details once everyone is signed up.

We can’t wait to see what countries will be represented!

Science Olympiad News

The Louise Archer Science Olympiad team performed exceptionally at the Virginia Science Olympiad State Tournament held at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville on March 26th. The team of rookie 6th graders covered events in the areas of Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science, Chemistry, Technology & Engineering as they prepared for and competed in events like Food Science, Experimental Design, Bridge Building, Meteorology, Solar System, Road Scholar, Rocks and Minerals, Ornithology to name a few. Our team of 15 sixth grade students covered all 23 events at a very difficult competition in the Middle School Division.

Through the combined efforts, intellectual stamina, and hard work of all of our team members, Louise Archer earned 5th place! This is a remarkable feat as the four schools ahead of Louise Archer are all middle schools. We are proud to bring home the 5th place trophy, a huge accomplishment in itself since we haven’t had the pleasure of a States level trophy placement since 2015! We are very proud of our entire team.

A huge gratitude for the commitment put forth by all the coaches, including many parents of our team members. Additionally, we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the dedication of several former Louise Archer students as well as their parents who have had a long term relationship with our Science Olympiad program. These generous individuals willingly give up many hours of their personal time to educate and inspire young scientists in an effort to give back to a school and a community that gave them a start in the area of sciences.

Please congratulate the following States Team students (in alphabetical order) for their noteworthy accomplishment. This culminates a long and fulfilling season of collaboration, team work, and Sci Oly fun!

August Bhatt, Jude Bishop, Tiger Deng, Yenna Kang, Mihir Kashyap, Ryan Kirk, Luke Lauretti, Lucas Liu, Audrey Munoz, Gregory Peng, Areli Peralta, Zachary Qin, Brandon Sang-Zheng, Asli Ulku, Bryan Xi
